Questions About Psychiatric Care

Straight answers about how visits work, what to expect, telehealth, insurance, and the conditions we treat in Chicago and across Illinois.

Can I get an ADHD diagnosis and treatment plan online?

Yes. We complete ADHD evaluations over secure video for patients anywhere in Illinois. The process covers your history and a clinical screening, and the plan we build with you can include medication as well as practical strategies for focus and follow-through.

Can you help with medication side effect management?

Managing side effects is part of medication management, not an interruption to it. If a medication is not sitting well, we review what you are experiencing and adjust the dose, the timing, or the medication itself - the goal is a plan you can stay with.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a therapist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor trained in the biological side of mental health, including diagnosis and medication. A therapist works mainly through conversation and behavioral change. At Dipsy Psychiatry both live under one roof: medication management and CBT-informed strategies in the same practice, so the two halves do not drift apart.

Where is your mental health clinic located?

We serve patients across Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, and our secure telehealth visits extend that care to people throughout Illinois - so location is rarely a barrier to starting.

How much does a psychiatric visit cost in Chicago?

Cost depends on the type of visit, how complex the evaluation is, and whether you are using insurance. We will give you a breakdown of fees - for the evaluation and for follow-up visits - before your appointment, so there are no surprises afterward.

Do you offer mental health services for children and adolescents in Illinois?

Yes. We evaluate and treat children and adolescents for concerns such as focus at school, behavior and emotional regulation, and we work with families across Chicago to keep the plan age-appropriate and practical.

What should I expect during my first psychiatric evaluation in Chicago?

Your first visit is a full assessment rather than a checklist. We go through your medical history, current symptoms and life stressors, talk through what the patterns suggest, and agree on next steps - medication, therapy-informed strategies, or monitoring for now.

Are your telehealth services HIPAA-compliant and secure?

Yes. Visits run on encrypted, HIPAA-compliant video, so a telehealth appointment is as private as an in-office one. The clinical work is the same; only the location changes.

Does your clinic treat "Dual Diagnosis" or substance use disorders?

Yes. Dual diagnosis care means we treat the substance use and the conditions behind it - depression, trauma, ADHD and similar - at the same time. Treating both at once is what makes lasting recovery more realistic.

How do I find a psychiatrist in Chicago who is currently accepting new patients?

Yes - we are accepting new patients for in-person and telehealth appointments. You can request your initial evaluation through our booking page and choose a time that suits you.
